Locals are concerned with the theft and disposal of buoyancy aids around the Castletown River. It is noted that the abuse of these lifesaving devices are higher in the summer months than in winter.

Anthony Quigley, a local resident off Castletown Road, has noticed that groups of young men have been seen throwing the buoys into the River. Quigley fishes out and collects the buoys, sometimes locating them to their nearest holding-station. “It’s a disgrace what’s going on. Sometimes I put them back but they just get thrown back in again.” Quigley reckons that they are safer in his back-garden, which is situated near the River.
